It's Wobble Time! May 9, 2014

Turtley Cool, Dude!

Toodle Noodle Creative: http://rodonner.blogspot.com

Today I have a super-simple card perfect for a young boy! Since I don't have many (or any) little boy birthday cards in my stash, I took this opportunity to add a really cute one.

I used up some scrap paper and stickers from my stash to create this adorable card. The turtle is from the Life Is A Beach Cricut Cartridge. I added some googley eyes an Action Wobble to bring him to life!

For the inside of the card, I drew the sentiment using my Cricut and the Cricut Pens.  This cute play on words is sure to make any little boy giggle.

Create a project that uses Patterned Paper

Don't Overthink It!

Sometimes I spend way too much time trying to figure out my cards. Sometimes it takes forever for me to settle on a layout, select the papers, assemble it, and know when to quit.  Sometimes I overthink it.

Well, not this time! This time, I sat in my chair, grabbed a random cartridge handbook (it turned out to be Life Is A Beach) and thumbed through it to see what struck me. Since the challenge over at Fantabulous Cricut is to use multiple patterned papers on your project, I wanted something that would give me an option to use at least two or three different patterns. I settled on the sailboat and waves, and ended up using FOUR patterned papers. I cut it out, slapped it together, added a simple sentiment, and WHAM! BHAM! it's a card!  For once, I didn't overthink it and I LOVE how it turned out. Clean and Simple.

I used papers from The White Ginger Collection from DCWV. The sentiment (something random in my stash) was stamped with Memento Pear Tart, which matched the papers perfectly! I like that, instead of using the normally seen red and blue for a nautical type card, I chose to go off the beaten path with green.

I chose not to do the inside of the card. This sentiment, "Celebrate", can be used for SO many occasions (birthday, new job, new baby, promotion, retirement) that I decided I would just wait to see what occasion it will be used for.

Did you enjoy the simplicity of this card and how easy it is to mix patterned papers? Well, check out the rest of the Design Team at Fantabulous Cricut and see what they have to show you! You can play along with us! Challenge yourself to keep it simple! You might surprise yourself.

FCCB #166: Frame It!

Woosah!

I find myself saying that all the time (remember all the "woosah's" from Bad Boys 2?) to remind myself to relax and be calm.  I say it to other people to tell them to "chill out".  I say it to myself at night when my brain lets all the rampant thoughts impede my sleep.  It has become my mantra.

One of my "woosah" enablers is picturing a tropical beach.  I would live on one if I could.  Something about the ocean and the salty air and the seagulls.  And it wouldn't hurt to have an umbrella drink, namely a Bahama Mama, in my hand as well.  And some steel drums playing in the background.  Ahhh...I'm relaxing already.

So when this weeks FCCB theme came around, Frame It, I immediately pictured a picture.  Go figure.  But the picture that came to mind was my tropical beach.  My inspiration for this project.

And this is what my woosah moment inspired:

I decided to "frame" a shaker-box and add a little beach.  It started out with my watercoloring a tropical sunset (really getting into the mixed media on this one!).

I used George and Basic Shapes to design my 1/8" wide frame and cut it out of cardboard four times.  I adhered each layer with tape and used a marker to color the edges.

My white gel pen came in handy for adding some waves to the watercolor and "relax' to the acetate.

I cut out the palm trees from "Life Is A Beach" and added a little detail with a green Crayon.  Yes, a crayon.  Don't judge.  I like it.

I purposely offset the green leaves to give the trees a little more dimension and shadowing.  I then used some strong adhesive tape and attached the palm trees to the background and the frame base to the watercolor.  Then I added my beach sand and attached the acetate to the top.  I then attached my top frame cut from teal cardstock and added a shell from the sticker stash.

I think I may actually KEEP this card for myself.  I have it sitting on my desk at work to remind me to WOOSAH...relax...breathe deeply...be calm.

Hopefully you are all relaxed now too and can hop on over to the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog and see what the other Design Team Members have framed up for you.  Come play along and share what you've created!

Woosah.

Until next time, keepin' it crafty!
