~This Weeks Challenge~
Sketch Challenge
Create a project using the following sketch:

This sketch is from the now defunct Card Positioning Systems.

To qualify for the prize, be sure to use at least 1 Cricut cut on your project
and if it's not obvious, let us know what cartridge you used.

So, for  my project this week, I decided to do an oval rather than a circle. I used Create A Critter 2 and Cricut Craft Room Basics to cut the oval and the scalloped oval for my main focal image.

I thought I might need a few getting married kind of cards this year (I think I know of three or four weddings already). I stamped the rose and colored it with Spectrum Noir markers, then added a little bling with some Stickles. I found the perfect charm in my stash and attached it with a piece of red ribbon. The lower corner gems are Dew Drops from The Robin's Nest, and they balance out the card nicely.

I added the white faux stitching and lines with a white gel pen. In this next pic, you can really see the glitter from the stickles.

For the inside of the card, I added a little more paper used on the front of the card and a nice sentiment from Stampin' Up.

Hope you come play along with us. Sketch challenges are so much fun. The design is there, all you have to do is pick the papers, cuts and embellishments you want to use. Feel free to turn the sketch sideways for a different look.

Til next time, keepin' it crafty!

FCCB #182: Black and Purple (Color Challenge!)

...and things that go BUMP in the night.

This weeks challenge over at the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog is to use the colors black and purple in your project.  Well, what else comes to mind with those colors and this time of year?  It has to be HALLOWEEN!  Right?  Purple-y dark nights with eyes that glow.....that's what came to me!

FCCB #182
I've showed you many times how I lay things out using the Cricut Design Studio, so I won't bore you with that this time.  This is how it came together.

I started out with a 5" x 6" (6" x 10" before folding) card base.  Onto that, I layered a black mat approximately 4.75" x 5.75".  I used my watercolors to paint the background onto watercolor paper and let it dry.  I then cut that down so that it fit on my mat with just a small frame showing.

I cut out the following shapes using my Cricut and Cricut cardstock:

  • Trees were from the Bloom Cartridge
  • Bats were from the Tags, Bags, Boxes & More 2 Cartridge
  • One headstone was from Trick or Treat
  • The other headstone was from Create A Critter 2
I added googly eyes and a hand-lettered sentiment (both inside and out).

How do I do such straight lines you ask?  I have a cheater....It's called the "Easy Straight" tool by Local Legacies.  I've included a pic with the website so you can check it out.  I use it on cards, envelopes, pretty much anything I hand-letter.  I bought a set years ago at a scrapbook show and have never regretted it.

And there you have it!  Please leave me some blog love.  I really enjoy reading your comments!

Hopefully, you're inspired to play along with us for this week's challenge.  Head over to FCCB now and see what the designers have brewed up!

Til next time, keepin' it crafty!

April Showers Bring May Flowers...

So why did I see it snowing this morning?  Ugh!  Thankfully it didn't stick and it reverted back to rain.  Things are starting to green up around mid-Michigan, but I have to say I am over all the rain.  I sure could use some sunshine!

Over at Fantabulous Cricut, the challenge is April Showers.  Here is my Design Team card.

FCCB #156
I used cuts from Create A Critter and Create A Critter 2 and the marvelous Cricut Cardstock (I LOVE this stuff!).  The rainbow was hand-drawn and the sentiment printed on Dymo tape and mounted on some washi.  Here are a couple more close-ups:

And the inside:

The font I used was LD Whatever.  I dig this font!

Check out all the cheery umbrella inspiration from the Design Team Members over at FCCB and play along!  It's better than looking at this gloomy rain, right?

Til next time, keepin' it crafty!

HAPPY EASTER!!!

...And I've Been Published Again!!

I can't believe it's Easter already.  And yet, there's still snow and blustery weather in the air.  I am so ready for Spring.  Especially since I just returned from a two week vacation in Florida and the Caribbean.  To go from 80's to the teens in a matter of hours....can I say Y U C K !?!

First up, a little good news....another of my cards has been published in the Scrap & Stamp Arts Magazine!  The June 2013 issue features my "Special Dad" Father's Day card submission.  And, it's under "Various Artists!"  Woo Hoo!!!  They think I'm an ARTIST!!!  (Doing a happy dance!)

But I don't know why they put by "Rosanne" instead of "Ro"....Grrrrr.  Oh well, it's a teensy issue in the grand scheme of life.

Next up:  FCCB Challenge #154 - Easter!

This week's Challenge Me Monday theme is Easter.  And I, along with the other Design Team members, have a project to share!  I knew I wanted to do a side-step card and I knew glitter would be involved (shocker, right?).  But that was all I knew.  But once I started thumbing through the Create A Critter 2 manual, it wasn't long before I had my design firmly scribbled on my idea pad.

So, without further delay, here is my cheery, Easter-y, glittery card:

FCCB Challenge #154
I cut out the chick at 3" and the eggs at 2" and 1".  Happy Easter was also at 1".  I love this cartridge!!

I had ordered some new cardstock from Cricut and I have to say...it is AWESOME!  Cuts like a dream!  This is the only cardstock I used on this project (with the exception of the base and background paper) and you can bet I will be using this all the time!

I also used a variety of Stickles to get my desired amount of "bling" and I'm very happy with how it turned out. Here are some close-ups...

Hope you have a wonderful Easter!  But first, head on over to Fantabulous Cricut and check out all the wonderful projects from the Design Team!  Hopefully you will be inspired to play along too!

Til next time, keepin' it crafty!

FCCB 152: Luck O' The Irish

Faith and Begorrah! It's A St. Patty's Card!

Things are flowing green over at the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog.  This week's challenge is Luck O' The Irish, and I was feeling that luck when this card came together.

FCCB 152
It's called a Shadowbox Card.  I sort of followed the directions on the Split Coast Stampers (you can find the tutorial for it here).  And I was so excited to use my new Create A Critter 2 cartridge for the first time.  I love how it turned out.  Here are the elements I used:

I used clear acetate on the top of the card so I could layer the lettering over the opening, so I used some Dazzles from HOTP to cover the glue strip.  I added Glossy Accents and Stickles to some of the elements to give it that bling.  And all my papers were from my scrap pile (I love using up my scraps!).

Now, head on over to FCCB and check out all the other wonderful designs by the very talented Design Team!  And maybe you'll even be inspired to play along!

Til next time, keepin' it crafty!
