Sketch~N~Scrap Card #25

Fun Month Ahead!

I know Mother's Day falls before Father's Day, but with the beautiful papers from one of our co-sponsors, The Robin's Nest, I couldn't wait to use them on a Father's Day card.

Actually, we have two co-sponsors over at Sketch~N~Scrap this month: The Robin's Nest and The Paper Bakery. Sketch~N~Scrap turns TWO this month, so we are having a special month full of sketches, prizes, and lots of special fun.

We hope you will find time to play along with one or all of our challenges this month, because TWO lucky participants will be winning a prize this month....that's right we have TWO prizes instead of one this month to celebrate Sketch~N~Scrap turning TWO!!!

Our first prize sponsor is The Robin's Nest:

The Robin's Nest is a manufacturing company specializing in scrapbook paper, stickers, and our most favorite embellishment: Dew Drops. We are a family owned business and have been creating fabulously elegant products since 1998. We try to support the mom and pops stores, so you cannot find our products in any Big Box stores. Buy Local. If you do not have a local craft store, you can buy our products on our online shop: www.robinsnest-scrap.com. We create to Inspire. The Robin's Nest is offering a $15 gift certificate to one lucky participant!!!

Our next awesome sponsor is The Paper Bakery:

Paper Bakery is your one-stop kit shop for all of your paper crafting needs. Whether you are looking to finish some layouts, complete an album, fit scrapbooking into your busy life, or get messy with paints we are your answer. We offer 4 different kit options at this time: Scrapbook Kit, Mixed Media Kit, Capture 365 Kit, and Project Kit. Even though all 4 of these kits are planned separately, all 4 of these kits coordinate with each other. Paper Bakery does this on purpose so you can mix and match kits! Paper Bakery Kits will be fun for any type of crafter too! From beginner to advanced, a Paper Bakery kit will work for you!

Ok, now back to the first card sketch...here is the sketch, done by Kelli Hollifield:

Awesome, right? I love this sketch, and I love how this Father's Day card turned out...

I used the brand new Lodge Collection papers from The Robin's Nest. All the supply links can be found below.  The plaid paper is just so "dad". It is on the reverse side of the Compass Cardstock. Mixed with the striped side of the Belgian Chocolate cardstock, it makes a striking, manly combination that fits this card perfectly.

The top layers were cut from the Lodge Cutouts cardstock and inked with some blue chalk ink. A little scrap ribbon and a couple of buttons with some floss finish off the card.

For the inside, I used a computer generated sentiment and mounted it on some more of that awesome paper.

I hope you enjoyed my card and are inspired to play along with us at Sketch~N~Scrap. I will be hosting on the hop on May 21st, so get ready for some fun!

Til next time, keepin' it crafty!

FCCB Challenge #209: Use Patterned Paper

Happy Monday and welcome to another Monday challenge!

Challenge #209 Paper Fun

~This Weeks Challenge~

Paper Fun
Create a project that uses Patterned Paper

Don't Overthink It!

Sometimes I spend way too much time trying to figure out my cards. Sometimes it takes forever for me to settle on a layout, select the papers, assemble it, and know when to quit.  Sometimes I overthink it.

Well, not this time! This time, I sat in my chair, grabbed a random cartridge handbook (it turned out to be Life Is A Beach) and thumbed through it to see what struck me. Since the challenge over at Fantabulous Cricut is to use multiple patterned papers on your project, I wanted something that would give me an option to use at least two or three different patterns. I settled on the sailboat and waves, and ended up using FOUR patterned papers. I cut it out, slapped it together, added a simple sentiment, and WHAM! BHAM! it's a card!  For once, I didn't overthink it and I LOVE how it turned out. Clean and Simple.

I used papers from The White Ginger Collection from DCWV. The sentiment (something random in my stash) was stamped with Memento Pear Tart, which matched the papers perfectly! I like that, instead of using the normally seen red and blue for a nautical type card, I chose to go off the beaten path with green.

I chose not to do the inside of the card. This sentiment, "Celebrate", can be used for SO many occasions (birthday, new job, new baby, promotion, retirement) that I decided I would just wait to see what occasion it will be used for.

Did you enjoy the simplicity of this card and how easy it is to mix patterned papers? Well, check out the rest of the Design Team at Fantabulous Cricut and see what they have to show you! You can play along with us! Challenge yourself to keep it simple! You might surprise yourself.

Action Wobble Time! April 26, 2014

MOUSTACHES!!!

I know you have seen them on cups, shirts, sheets, signs and people. Well, you are seeing them here now too! I did a super-quick, super-easy card for any random occasion. And it's dude-friendly!

Give it a little jiggle and moustache will wiggle!

The inside is just as corny.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the base of the front using the Braggadocio Font, and a moustache file from the online store. The moustache is mounted with an Action Wobble (see the info on them below).

I moustache you....did you like it? lol

Sketch~N~Scrap Card #24

Some Steampunk Just For You!

The blend of the Sketch~N~Scrap card sketch and our sponsor, Creative Embellishments brought together a steampunk inspired birthday card. I love the look of steampunk, but admittedly haven't dabbled with it too much. So there's no time like the present!

Here is the sketch:

My take:

I embossed soem kraft cardstock using two different embossing folders and lightly inked the raised images. I used some twine as my center. But the highlight of this card is definitely the gears. Here is how they started out:

Nice, sturdy chipboard. So how did I get such richness? Super simple. Embossing powder. I chose gold, silver, bronze and black. You just rub Versamark on the embellishment and cover it with the embossing powder and heat. They turned out stunning!

I glued them together and attached them to my card. They made a beautiful focal point.

Here is the inside of the my card:

I hope you enjoyed my project! Now, head over to Sketch~N~Scrap and get all the details on playing along. You could even win a $20 gift certificate to Creative Embellishments!
